After finding their feet in the first half of the Oct. 19 game against College of St. Catherine, the St. Olaf women’s soccer team blitzed their opponents in the second half to earn a 3 – 0 victory.

The cold and cloudy home game was slow moving at first. The first-half provided limited opportunities for each side with the teams only managing a combined total of three shots.

However, the tide turned early in the second half after Kajsa Brindley ’16 gained an opportunity to open the scoring with a penalty kick at the 49:22 mark. Brindley calmly slotted home the spot kick, beating Wildcat goalkeeper Danielle Mendez ’16 to notch her eighth goal of the year.

The Oles were gifted a second goal courtesy of St. Catherine when a St. Kate’s defender accidentally put the ball in their own net. This gave the Oles a comfortable 2-0 lead with just over 20 minutes to play.

St. Olaf scored another goal to secure the win just before the final whistle when Rachael Stets ’14 lobbed a shot over Mendez’s head from 30 yards out.

The win capped off the Oles’ regular season home game schedule for 2013, finishing 6-2-1 at Rolf Mellby Field.
