HOCKEY HISTORY: I started playing hockey in fourth grade. I had been figure skating for the year or two previous, but became bored of that. My older brother started playing hockey, so I decided to follow suit. I played two years on a boys’ team. Then, from sixth grade through my senior year of high school, I played for the Grand Rapids Griffins girls’ team because there was no girls’ high school hockey.
PRE-GAME RITUAL: There are certain foods I always eat before games: a peanut butter and jelly sandwich; a mix of Goldfish, pretzels and raisins; and cereal. Right after our on-ice warm-up I eat a piece of chocolate. Chocolate is the new breakfast of champions.
