Ole soccer: victory and defeat at Gustavus

The St. Olaf men’s soc- cer team defeated Gustavus Adolphus College 4-2 in their away game on the afternoon of Sept. 19. Forward Kevin Skrip ’16. led the Oles with two goals, while forward Aaron Stets ’16 and defender Tyler Rosera ’17 added one apiece; Rosera’s was his first goal of the season. The Oles are currently 2-0 in

the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) and 3-4 overall. The team travels to Moorhead, Minn. on Saturday, Sept. 26 for a game against Concordia College.

Meanwhile, the St. Olaf wom- en’s soccer team lost to Gustavus on the same afternoon. The game ended with a score of 1-0, put- ting the team’s MIAC record at 1-1-0, and their overall record at 1-3-2. Despite St. Olaf’s defensive

effort, Gustavus scored the win- ning goal in the seventh minute of the game. The Oles had 12 shots, led by forward Madison Van Wylen ’16 and midfielder Sarah Behr ’17 with two shots each. Head Coach Jeremy Driver wants to work on creating more goal–scoring opportunities and improving the percentage of goals scored. He was impressed with Behr’s performance and is optimistic about the team’s abil-

ity to improve scoring, possession and decision-making.

“We are already looking for- ward to putting this game behind us, and to the challenge that the next game brings,” Driver said.

The women’s soccer team plays the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Wednesday, Sept. 24.
