Brief films appreciated

Late Saturday night, when I got back to my room after performing in a play, I decided I wanted to do something I hadn’t had time for in quite a while: watch a whole movie from start to finish in one sitting. So I loaded up Netflix to look for something to watch, but then I noticed that most of the movies were way too long considering how late it was.

It seems to me that over time, the average movie length just gets longer and longer. And this wouldn’t be such a problem if that extra time was spent well, but more often than not it’s just an excuse for lazy editing. Plus, the rise of T.V. shows has lead to entire seasons that could honestly have been done in a single film.

The amount of filler in the media landscape is nauseating. I’d much rather sit down for a compact and well-rounded 90 minutes.

Sometimes brevity is best.
