This past weekend the St. Olaf Debate team sent four two-person teams and one individual competitor to the annual State Tournament at the Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, Minn.
Two teams advanced to the quarter-finals, and one team advanced to the semi-finals. St. Olaf also had three debate speakers place in the top 10 for individual speaker points. Jake Maranda ’22 came in 10th place, Matthew Erickson ’19 came in second and Maxwell Bradley ’22 placed first.
This was the first time in several years that any St. Olaf team has advanced to the semi-finals, and the first time St. Olaf has had the two best debate speakers in the state.
