This year, St. Olaf students can look forward to up-and-coming rapper Duckwrth on Nov. 12 for the fall concert. While Duckwrth is not yet a household name, you might know him from the “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” soundtrack. Duckwrth and Shaboozey collaborate on the track “Start a Riot” for this album. The rapper will also be opening for Billie Eilish on her “Happier Than Ever” tour.
For those wondering more about the process of choosing the concert artist, Ghazal Ramazanian ‘22, a member of the Music Entertainment Committee (MEC) helped fill in some of the details. A group of initial artists are picked based on what the MEC concert budget allows and then from there MEC members pick artists that they think would make a good fit. Then the choices are narrowed down, approved by an advisor, and voted on for the final pick. In recent years the concerts have been with rappers like Rico Nasty and Denzel Curry. This pick is slightly different, as Duckwrth is more of an alternative artist. However, he still fits the genre of rap and hip-hop that is popular on campus. Make sure to check out some of his tracks before the concert, including “Crush” and “Kiss U Right Now.”
Tabling for tickets has already started and will continue through Thursday, Nov. 11 from 4:40 to 6:30 p.m. every day. Tickets are $5 for St. Olaf students and $10 for Carleton students. Tickets can also be bought online for a slight upcharge. Duckwrth will perform at 9 p.m. on Nov. 12 with an opener at 8 p.m. Masks will be required.
