I started watching soccer this year on a whim, especially during the World Cup. It was fun keeping track of who lost and who got to continue on, and it was nice to be able to watch the games even though they were in Qatar. I found that watching was easily accessible. I could watch the game wherever I was, at home, at restaurants that played on their TV’s, and even looking over the shoulders of classmates watching it in class. All eyes were on Messi and Argentina, and in the final game of the World Cup as he fulfilled his life’s ambition by leading Argentina to the World Cup title in Qatar. Since moving to Inter Miami in the United States in 2023, he has led the team to victory in the United Leagues Cup.
The Ballon D’or is a prestigious award given to the best soccer player in the world every year. Messi has won the Ballon D’or in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2019, 2021, and now 2023. Although Messi fell a little short in 2022, he proved to the world that he would win that title again the next year. Winning the sport’s biggest, most prestigious, and most important prize in the soccer world, Messi was involved in 10 goals for Argentina, scoring seven and assisting in three; he scored twice in the final against France.
No other player has more than five Ballon D’or awards. Cristiano Ronaldo has five, Michel Platini, Johan Cruyff, and Marco van Basten have three each.
Honestly, I’m not mad or even upset in the slightest that Messi won this award, why would I be? He’s one of the main and best reasons why the team won the World Cup and I think he deserves all the accomplishments he has received in this success and ambition he has done for the country. I don’t always keep up with sports and their players, but I do believe that he deserves this award because of his efforts in the victory for Argentina and his continuing success in the United States.
He deserves all the awards he has received and praise because of his win and I support myself in saying that Messi deserved getting his eighth Ballon D’or because of his World Cup title for Argentina.
